Overview
Checkr is a company that runs background checks, and it was engaged by Uber to complete your background check as part of your onboarding process. This article explains what Uber candidates can expect during their background check process and addresses frequently asked questions.
Uber onboarding process
During the onboarding process with Uber, candidates are prompted to submit certain information and provide consent to run a background check. The candidate information is then sent to Checkr to start the background check process. Due to the nature of Uber’s background check requirements, there is sometimes a delay between when the candidate begins the onboarding process with Uber and when the background check process gets started with Checkr.
Background check process
When Uber orders a background check, Checkr will conduct all Uber-requested searches. An Uber background check often takes between 3-7 business days, but background checks can take longer depending on a number of factors, such as local government processes or access to county courthouse records.
Candidates are encouraged to monitor the progress of their background check through Checkr’s Candidate Portal using the personal details associated with their Uber account.
After the background check completes, the results of the requested searches are shared with Uber, who will review them to make engagement decisions. Uber’s Driver app will be updated to display the status of any remaining onboarding requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Once you have provided all the necessary information to Uber to start your background check, that information will be sent to Checkr. Please note it can take up to 24 hours for our systems to update. If you do not see a profile with your information and it has been more than 24 hours, please contact Uber to confirm that a background check has been ordered.
After confirming with Uber, if you continue to have issues accessing the Candidate Portal, visit: How do I log in to the Candidate Portal?
Additional information is sometimes needed in order to be able to complete a report. When this happens, the report status will show as Suspended in the Candidate Portal, and the candidate will receive a notification from Checkr. Please take the requested action in order to allow the report to be completed.
If, after taking any requested action, the report status continues to show as Suspended, this may mean Checkr is not able to complete the report with the information that was provided. Candidates can contact Uber Support to explore possible next steps.
If you believe the information on your background check contains inaccurate information, please contact Checkr and follow Checkr’s dispute process.
If the information on your background check contains accurate information, please understand Uber makes a decision based on the report that Checkr provides. If the information is accurate, a new report will not be ordered. For any questions related to Uber’s decision, the candidate can contact Uber Support.
If the status of your current license has changed, please follow Checkr’s dispute process.
If your driver’s license state or number has changed, please upload your Driver’s License to your Account Documents on the Uber Driver app.
Each company has different background check requirements. For example, there may be differences in the types of searches ordered by Uber as compared to other companies. These differences often impact turnaround time or may result in a request for additional information.
