What is the difference between a screening and a package?

A package is a defined set of screenings that will be run after a candidate authorizes their background check. For example, an Essential Criminal Package consists of the following screenings:

• Social Security Number Trace
• Sex Offender Registry Check
• Global Watchlist Check
• National Criminal Database Check
• County Criminal Check (Unlimited County)

What standard screening packages are available?

Checkr offers a variety of packages at different price points.

Checkr offers four standalone screenings:

• Education Verification: Confirm a candidate's educational history.
• Previous Employment Verification: Confirm a candidate's previous employers.
• Current Employment Verification: Confirm a candidate's current employer.
• Motor Vehicle Record (MVRs): Complete a standard MVR screening.

Checkr also offers several packages that provide common combinations of Checkr's most frequently requested screenings:

Basic+ (previously Basic package)	Social Security Number Trace Sex Offender Registry Check Global Watchlist Check National Criminal Database Check	The Basic+ Criminal Package is a building block for all other screening packages. This package contains searches commonly called "pointer searches." If these searches return "pointers" to possible data in specific counties, the report is upgraded and a County Criminal Check is initiated.
Essential (previously Pro package)	Basic+ Criminal Package plus County Criminal Check (Unlimited County)	In addition to performing screenings in the Basic+ Criminal Package, the Essential Criminal Package performs county criminal checks for all counties returned in the pointer search as potential address history for that candidate over the last 7-year period. This search includes any legally reportable felony and misdemeanor convictions, pending cases, and dismissed records.
Professional  (new)	Essential Criminal Package plus Education Verification Employment Verification	In addition to performing screenings contained in the Essential Criminal package, Checkr performs Education and Employment Verifications. These verifications confirm a candidate's highest degree and current employer, respectively.
International Basic+ (previously International Criminal)	International Criminal Check (or Adverse Media) Global Watchlist Check	Checkr's International Basic+ package is provided for candidates living outside the United States.  Note that pricing, candidate requirements, and turnaround times vary by country.
International Professional  (new)	International Basic+  plus Employment Verification Education Verification	In addition to performing screenings contained in the International Basic+ package, Checkr will perform Education and Employment Verifications. These verifications confirm a candidate's highest degree and current employer, respectively.
International Professional+ (new)	International Professional plus Identity Document Validation	In addition to performing screenings contained in the International Professional package, Checkr performs Identity Document Validations. This validation includes verifying a candidate’s passport, national ID, or driver’s license.

Contact Checkr Customer Support for pricing. In addition to the cost of the background check, reports might incur third-party access fees.

Can I customize a package?

You can add more screenings to create custom packages that best fit your team’s needs. Checkr can add the checks below to any basic package:

Note that some customization options might be unavailable through partner integrations, and some screenings might take additional setup time.

Which package is right for me?

Each organization has unique needs. As a general rule, ensure the package includes comprehensive screenings suitable for the role. For example, if you’re hiring a driver, you might want to include a Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) screening in the package.

Who do I contact to add a new package?

Existing customers can contact Checkr Customer Support to add a new package to their accounts. Those working with a dedicated Customer Success Manager (CSM) can also contact their CSM directly. New accounts must first be credentialed before running screenings. Packages that include Occupational Health Screenings and Employment Credit Checks need extra setup time.

Can I add screenings to an existing package?

To add a specific screening to an existing package, you must have the role of admin, restricted admin, or requester, and have the 'manage_order_add_ons' permission turned on.
