Checkr’s Sender provides an encrypted file transfer service that allows Checkr and our customers to safely and securely share documents containing sensitive data. These documents might include account setup data, customer or candidate PII, and other confidential materials.
Sendr allows Checkr to provide our customers with an automatically expiring link to encrypted files. Files uploaded through Sendr will be hosted in Checkr’s Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), a secure and managed cloud storage solution.
Open source foundation
Checkr is based on Firefox Send (https://send.firefox.com/), an active open source project which uses end-to-end encryption to keep your data secure from the moment a file is shared to the moment it is opened. Send provides a simple UI to upload a file, set a password and an expiration time, and then share a link to access the file.
Checkr hosts both our forked instance of Firefox Send, and all transmitted data on our Amazon S3 bucket, which allows us to use our own encryption keys end to end.
For more information on Send, see the Mozilla blog post: Introducing Firefox Send.
Using Sendr to share files
Checkr’s Sendr is available from https://sendr.checkr.com/.
To start sharing files, go to https://sendr.checkr.com/.
Upload and protect files
Select the file you wish to share.
- Use the pulldown menus to define when the generated link will expire.
Select the least number of downloads, and the shortest expiration that works for your purpose. The link will expire after the selected number of downloads, or the selected number of days, whichever is first.
- Enter the password you will share with your receiving party to access this file.
Note: Password must contain 24-34 characters, one number, and one special character. The Upload button will be available after entering a password that meets these criteria.
Click Upload to send the file to Sendr, and open a page from which a link to share your file with others may be copied.
Click Copy link to share your file, or OK to open a page from which you may:
- Upload more files
- Remove files
- Copy a link to uploaded files to send to your users.
Please note that this page is available only immediately after your files have been uploaded, and is provided simply for your convenience. You may not access this page by any other means.
Note: Share the link and the password in separate emails. Never store the two together. For greater security, we recommend using Gmail's confidential mode to send these emails.
Checkr will automatically delete all submitted files from our server 7 days after upload.
To download files, send the recipient a link to the download and the required password.
Note: Send the password and link in two separate emails, or by two different means of transmission. Never include both the link and the required password in a single email or text.
Clicking the link will open a new browser tab, and prompt the user to enter the required password.
Entering the password and clicking Unlock will open a page allowing your user to download the encrypted file. Once downloaded, they’ll receive a confirmation notice.
