Most background checks take 3 to 7 business days, but sometimes they can take longer. If your report is taking longer than expected, check your email or log into the Candidate Portal to see if Checkr needs more information from you. When your report is ready, you'll get an email at the address you used to apply.
Common reasons your background check is "In progress" or "Pending"
Checkr needs more information from you
Check your email inbox and spam/junk file for any messages from Checkr requesting information or documentation.
Checkr is waiting for information from county courts
Many courts in the US still maintain paper records instead of electronic records. Obtaining these records can add time to the process because it requires specially trained researchers to go to the county courthouse and physically pull records.
Court backlogs
Due to staff shortages and the demand for records, many courts suffer from record request backlogs. This is especially true for courts in California and Massachusetts.
Additional checks
Reports that include a special screening or verification, such as education or employment, may cause your report to take longer to complete.
